Why a sale can ask you to set up a warehouse before you can charge
What to do when Mosce ERP stops an order or a checkout because a product doesn't resolve to any warehouse.
When you create or edit an order, and when you charge at the point of sale, Mosce ERP checks that every product has somewhere to come from. If a line doesn't resolve a warehouse, the operation stops and tells you exactly which product to fix and why. This article explains the two possible reasons and how to fix each one.
Reading time: ~4 min
When to use this
- An order won't let you create or edit it, and the message mentions a product and a warehouse.
- A checkout at the register stops with an inventory notice before completing.
- You want to understand why your new business should never see this notice.
Before you start
- To set a product's default warehouse you need the
products:updatepermission. - To create or edit warehouses and sections you need
warehouses:createandwarehouses:update. - Check Warehouses for the priority order Mosce ERP uses to resolve a line's warehouse (document line → product's default warehouse → branch's default warehouse).
What happens when a warehouse is missing
When you create or edit a sales order, and when you charge at the point of sale, Mosce ERP checks every line before completing the operation. If a product doesn't resolve any warehouse to move stock from, the operation stops right there: the order isn't created, the checkout isn't completed, and the notice names the affected product and the exact reason.
There are two possible reasons, and each is fixed differently.
Reason 1 - No warehouse is marked as default
If your branch has no warehouse marked as default and the product doesn't have one configured of its own either, there's nothing to fall back on.
How to fix it: go to Settings → Branches, open your branch's record, and mark an active warehouse as default. Alternatively, set a default warehouse directly on the product's record (Operations → Products, Inventory section).
Reason 2 - The warehouse has no section to store in
The warehouse exists and is marked as default, but it has no section created, and without a section there's nowhere to record or deduct stock.
How to fix it: open that warehouse's detail from Inventory → Warehouses and add at least one section (see Warehouses for the step by step). You don't need to reorganize anything else: a single section is enough to make the warehouse usable.
A new business should never see this
When you sign up your business on Mosce ERP, the system automatically creates a warehouse named after your own business, with its section ready to use and marked as default. You can start selling right away without configuring any inventory by hand.
This notice can only appear if someone later deletes that warehouse or its section, or unmarks the default without leaving another one in its place.
How many warehouses your plan allows
The Free plan includes a single warehouse: the one created automatically when you sign up. Higher plans allow you to create more warehouses, for businesses with several branches or separate physical locations.
The product's cost updates with every purchase
Every time you receive a purchase, the product's cost is recalculated automatically (weighted average cost), instead of keeping the last value you typed by hand. This affects the margin shown on the product's record, your inventory valuation, and your profit reports. The full detail, with numeric examples, is in Cost, margins and pricing.
Common mistakes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
Product X has no warehouse configured | No default warehouse, neither the branch's nor the product's | Mark a warehouse as default on the branch, or set one on the product's record |
Warehouse X has no sections to record stock | The default warehouse exists but has no section | Add at least one section from the warehouse's detail |
| My business is new and I already see this notice | Someone deleted the initial warehouse or its section, or removed the default | Create a new warehouse with at least one section and mark it as default |
| I can't create another warehouse | Your current plan only allows one | Upgrade your plan from Billing and subscription |
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose the order I was filling out when this notice appears?
No. The operation simply doesn't complete until the product resolves a warehouse. What you had already filled in on the form isn't lost as long as you don't close the screen.
Does the notice show up the same way at the point of sale as when creating an order?
Yes, the same check applies to both flows: creating or editing an order, and charging at the point of sale.
Can more than one product be affected at once?
Yes. If more than one product on the same order doesn't resolve a warehouse, the notice shows the first one it finds; once that one is fixed, if another product is still missing a warehouse, you'll see the next notice when you retry.
Does this notice have anything to do with the product's available stock?
No. It's independent of whether there's enough stock available; it's about whether a warehouse exists to try moving that stock from. Stock availability is validated separately.
