Branches: what they are, who gets into each one, and how many your plan allows
What a branch is in Mosce ERP, how it's picked and switched, what happens if you have none assigned, the read-only consolidated view, and each plan's branch limit.
A branch groups the warehouses, cash registers, and people who can work at one location of your business. If you have a single one, you won't notice it at all: it picks itself and is named after your business. If you have several, you pick one when you log in and can switch anytime - with a warning first, because switching branches reloads the page. This article explains how it works, what being (or not being) assigned to a branch means, and how many branches each plan includes.

When to use this
- You're setting up a second branch and want to know what changes in the application.
- A new user can't work and the screen tells them they have no branch assigned.
- You don't understand why switching branches reloaded the page and you lost what you were typing.
- Someone in leadership needs to see the data of every branch at once.
- You want to know how many branches your plan includes before creating a new one.
Before you start
- You need the
branches:readpermission to see the branch list, branches:createto create a new one, branches:updateto edit a branch or change who's assigned to it, andbranches:deleteto remove one. - To see the consolidated view of every branch at once you need the
branches:access-allpermission, which is not included in any factory role except the Owner's. - All of this is managed from Settings → Branches and, to grant the permissions, from Settings → Roles and permissions.
What a branch is
A branch is a location of your business: a store, an office, a physical site. Each one groups:
- Its own warehouses (though you can also have warehouses shared across all branches; see Inventory is per branch too).
- Its own cash registers.
- The people assigned to work there.
Each branch has its own name, code, address, and contact details, and one of its warehouses is marked as its default - the one used when a document doesn't specify another.
If your business has a single branch
You won't notice anything different. Mosce ERP creates that first branch automatically when you set up your account, named after your business, and uses it for everything without asking you anything. No switcher appears in the interface: with a single location to work from, there's nothing to choose.
If you add a second branch at some point, that's when the switcher and everything else described in this article start showing up.
If your business has several branches
You pick one when you log in
If your user has access to more than one branch (or none), Mosce ERP asks you to pick one when you log in. If you only have access to one, it's picked for you and you never even see that screen.
You switch it from within the application, with a warning
You can switch branches at any time using the switcher, without having to sign out. Before making the switch, Mosce ERP warns you: switching branches reloads the page, so anything you haven't saved gets lost - a half-filled form, a filter you hadn't applied. You confirm the switch on purpose, never by accident.
Being assigned to a branch is a boundary, not a filter
This is the most important thing to understand: branch assignment isn't a convenience for tidying up the screen - it's a real boundary. Whoever isn't assigned to a branch doesn't see that branch's data, no matter what other permissions they hold.
A new user who doesn't have any branch assigned yet cannot work. The screen tells them clearly: they have no branch assigned yet, so there's nothing they can do, and it points them to ask an administrator at their company to assign them at least one from Settings → Branches.
For the same reason, if you remove someone's only assigned branch, they're left unable to work at all - Mosce ERP warns you about this before you confirm the change.
Viewing every branch at once
There's a permission built for leadership: branches:access-all. With it, instead of picking a branch, you can enter a consolidated view that combines the data of every branch.
That view is read-only. It's meant for looking at the whole business - reports, totals, comparisons between branches - but not for creating documents: if you try to invoice, collect, or record something while in the consolidated view, Mosce ERP asks you to pick a specific branch first. Consolidating to look at things and operating from one specific place are kept deliberately separate.
No factory role includes this permission by default, except the Owner (who has access to everything without needing it granted). To give it to someone else - a partner, a general manager - go to Settings → Roles and permissions and add it to the relevant role.
How many branches your plan includes
The number of branches you can create depends on your plan:
| Plan | Branches included |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 |
| Starter | 1 |
| Professional | 3 |
| Enterprise | 8 |
The Free plan comes with a single branch - the one created automatically with your account. If you need more than one, you need to upgrade.
Once you hit the limit, the button to create a new branch shows as disabled and displays how many you have against how many your plan includes. See Billing and subscription to upgrade, or the pricing page to compare all the limits.
Common mistakes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| A new user can't do anything in the application | They don't have any branch assigned yet | Assign them at least one from Settings → Branches |
| I lost what I was typing when I switched branches | Switching branches reloads the page, and the confirmation dialog warns you about this | Save or finish what you're doing before switching branches |
| I can't create a document while in the all-branches view | The consolidated view is read-only | Pick a specific branch before creating the document |
| I don't see the button to create a new branch, or it's disabled | You've reached your plan's branch limit | Upgrade from Settings → My plan, or remove a branch you no longer use |
| I can't find the branch switcher in the application | Your business has a single branch | This is expected behavior - with a single branch, no switcher appears |
Frequently asked questions
Can I have several branches without anyone noticing a change in how they work?
Yes. As long as each user stays assigned only to the branch they already worked in, their day-to-day doesn't change: they keep seeing the same thing as always. The switcher and the branch prompt only appear for people who have access to more than one.
Can a user be assigned to several branches at once?
Yes. You can assign a person to as many branches as needed, and they choose which one to work in at any given moment using the switcher.
What happens if I delete a branch?
It's a soft delete: the branch stops being available to pick and disappears from the switcher, but its document history and reports are preserved.
Can I rename a branch without losing its history?
Yes. Renaming a branch doesn't affect documents already created; it only changes what's shown going forward. See Each document is recorded at the branch where it happened.
Does the consolidated view count as an extra branch against my plan's limit?
No. The all-branches view isn't a branch in itself - it's a way of looking at the ones you already created. Only actual branches count against your plan's limit.
