Balance sheet
A snapshot of net worth as of a date: assets, liabilities and equity grouped according to the chart of accounts.
The Balance Sheet shows the business's financial position as of a specific date. It lists assets, liabilities and equity in a hierarchical structure derived from the chart of accounts, with totals by section and an indicator that warns you if the balance does not balance. It supports comparison against the previous period or previous year and export to PDF or CSV.
Reading time: ~4 min
When to use this
- You need to present the financial position at month, quarter or fiscal year close.
- You want to see how much the company owes, how much it is owed and how much the equity is worth as of a cutoff date.
- The external accountant or the board asks for a comparative balance against the previous period.
- You are auditing balances and need to confirm that Assets = Liabilities + Equity.
Before you start
- You have the Accounting module active and the
reports:readpermission. To download PDF or CSV you also needreports:export. - There are journal entries in Posted (POSTED) status up to the cutoff date. Draft entries do not contribute balances to the report.
- The chart of accounts has the correct type assigned (ASSET, LIABILITY, EQUITY) per account. A misclassified account will appear in the wrong section.
Step by step
- Go to the side menu and open Accounting reports → Balance Sheet.
- In Period, choose the cutoff date. It loads today's date by default.
- If you want a comparative column, open Comparison and select:
- Previous period - the same duration immediately before the cutoff.
- Previous year - the same date of the prior year.
- Leave it at
-for a single-period view.
- The table loads automatically with three blocks: ASSETS, LIABILITIES and EQUITY, with totals at the bottom of each section and a combined Liabilities + Equity total.
- Review the Balanced / Unbalanced indicator below the totals. If Unbalanced appears, there are entries with mismatched debits and credits - open Accounting → Journal entries and filter by status to locate them.

balance-sheet-2026-04-30.pdf).
Expected result

Frequently asked questions
When does my balance sheet balance?
When the total sum of Assets equals the sum of Liabilities plus Equity. Mosce ERP indicates this in the Balanced / Unbalanced indicator below the totals. If it is unbalanced, there are POSTED entries with debits and credits that do not match, or accounts classified with the incorrect type.
Why do my retained earnings not match the income statement?
The Balance Sheet reflects the accumulated balance of the Retained Earnings account at the close of the period, which includes results from prior years. The Income Statement shows only the current period's profit. The difference is precisely the profit from previous periods that has not yet been distributed.
Do draft entries affect the balance sheet?
No. Only entries in Posted (POSTED) status are included. If there are recent movements not shown in the balance, verify that the corresponding entries are posted in Accounting → Journal entries.
Can I export the balance sheet to Excel?
You can download in CSV format, which opens directly in Excel or Google Sheets. The PDF format with the tenant header is also available for formal presentations.
Can I see the balance as of a past date?
Yes. Choose any date in the Period field and the balance recalculates as of that cutoff, including only the entries posted up to that date.
