Inventory report
How to read the Mosce ERP inventory report: current valuation using weighted average cost and a summary of the period's movements.
The inventory report has two complementary sections: the valuation (what your stock is worth right now) and the period movements (what came in, went out, was adjusted or transferred within the selected range). Read this article to understand what each section measures and the important limitation of the date filter for valuation.
Reading time: ~6 min
When to use this
- You want to know how much your inventory is worth right now.
- You need to audit which movements occurred in a period (inflows, outflows, adjustments, transfers).
- You are closing the accounting period and need the stock value for the balance sheet.
- You detected a discrepancy between physical and recorded stock and want to trace the movements.
Before you start
- You need the
reports:readpermission and the Inventory module active in your plan. - Valuation uses the weighted average cost configured on each product. If a product has no cost, its contribution to the total value is zero.
- Downloading as CSV or PDF consumes one export from your monthly quota. See Usage limits.
Section 1 - Inventory valuation
What it shows
The valuation section lists each active product with stock greater than zero and calculates:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Quantity in stock | Units currently available per product |
| Weighted average cost | Average cost of the units in stock, calculated with the moving average cost method |
| Inventory value | Quantity × weighted average cost |
| Total inventory value | Sum of all individual values |
You can filter the valuation by warehouse to see the stock value of a specific location.
Important limitation - valuation always reflects current stock
Valuation always reflects current quantities, regardless of the date range you set in the filter. The date filter applies exclusively to the movements section (see Section 2 below).
This means you cannot use this report to check how much your inventory was worth on December 31 of last year - the system does not reconstruct historical point-in-time stock. If you need the inventory value as of a past date for an accounting report, the closest approximation is to sum the movements from that date until today and subtract them from the current value (manual work outside Mosce ERP).
Section 2 - Summary of period movements
What it shows
The movements summary groups all inventory movements that occurred within the selected date range by movement type:
| Movement type | When it occurs |
|---|---|
| Inflow from purchase | When receiving a purchase order or recording a supplier invoice with products |
| Outflow from sale | When issuing a sales invoice with inventory products |
| Inventory adjustment | When recording a manual stock adjustment (positive or negative) |
| Transfer between warehouses | When moving units from one warehouse to another |
| Inflow from return | When processing a customer return |
| Outflow from shrinkage / write-off | When recording loss, expiry or another write-off reason |
For each type, the report shows the total quantity of units and the total value (units × average cost of the movement).
How to use the date filter for movements
The date range you set in the report applies only to movements - it lets you check what came in or went out in a specific period. The valuation (Section 1) always shows current stock.
Example: if you set the range to "January 2026", the movements section shows everything that came in and went out in January, but the valuation section shows the current stock and value (May 2026, in this case).
Common errors
| Symptom | Likely cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The total inventory value is zero or very low | Many products have no cost configured | Go to Catalog → Products and review the cost of products with stock |
| A movement does not appear in the report | The movement occurred outside the selected date range | Widen the date range |
| The quantity in stock does not match the physical count | There are adjustments pending to be recorded | Record an inventory adjustment from Inventory → Adjustments |
| The historical value does not match the accounting balance | Valuation is always as of the current date; the balance may show the value as of another date | Use the general ledger of the inventory accounts for historical reconciliation |
Frequently asked questions
Can I see the inventory value as of a past date?
Not directly. Valuation always reflects current stock. To estimate the historical value, you need to combine the current valuation with the period's movement history, which requires manual calculation.
Does the report show inventory across all warehouses combined?
By default, yes. You can filter by a specific warehouse using the warehouse selector available in the report header.
Do products with zero stock appear?
No. The valuation section only shows products with stock greater than zero. Products that were written off or ran out appear in the movement history if they had activity in the selected period.
Does the report include consignments or in-transit stock?
Only confirmed available stock is included. In-transit stock (from purchase orders pending receipt) does not appear in the valuation until the receipt is recorded.
